Autism Swim has launched a brand new Extension Course within its Neuroinclusive Aquatics Academy, comprising four high-impact modules specifically designed to assist you in understanding and supporting neurodivergent brains and bodies in aquatic environments.

Modules include:
✔️Regulation
✔️ Sensory Needs
✔️Sensory Breaks
✔️Body, Movement and Coordination

This exciting new course is online, self-paced and designed for aquatic and allied health professionals, parents and the broader support community.

When the Goal is Getting to “Calm”

We often drive outcomes to achieve:

  • A settled body
  • Quiet demeanour
  • Willingness to wait

And when this is achieved, we can be tempted to think:

“Perfect. They are doing great.”

But often this approach comes with consequences.

Calm Without Regulation

Calm without regulation is the nervous system going quiet to survive, not thrive.

It means we’re prioritising low-arousal over true engagement.

On the outside, calm can look like compliance.

On the inside, systems can go offline for protection.

Offline systems don’t retain skills.

Stop Managing Behaviours. Start Reading Nervous Systems.

The Sensory Extension Course has been developed to help aquatic professionals better understand what may be happening beneath the surface.

Through practical learning focused on regulation, sensory needs, sensory breaks, and body, movement and coordination, participants will build their understanding of neuroinclusive practice in aquatic environments.
