The Water Affect Swim School

Kristie-Lee Gomez, Principal and Lead Swim Coach

At The Water Affect Swim School, we pride ourselves on being a bespoke, tailor-designed swim school that supports the unique needs of our neurodiverse community. Our team includes Autism Swim Australia-certified staff, specially trained to meet the varying requirements of our swimmers.

What sets us apart is our commitment to evidence-based practice. Our programs are grounded in a combination of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Neurocognitive Functional Movement, and sensory integration techniques. Each lesson is completely individualised, developed in alignment with the needs of the swimmer and any supports funded through the NDIS.

We work closely with occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and behavioural specialists to ensure continuity and reinforcement of each child’s therapeutic goals. From pool transitions to neurocognitive movement, we aim to create an environment where children feel safe, relaxed, and engaged—key ingredients for learning.

At The Water Affect, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, empowerment, and therapeutic benefits of water. We offer a safe, inclusive, and accepting environment where learning to swim is not only a milestone, but a pathway to greater connection—with themselves, their families, and their peers.

Living on the Central Coast, we understand the importance of water safety and access. Surrounded by beaches, rivers, and lakes, swimming is not just a skill—it’s essential. We believe no one should be a bystander in their own life, and that every individual deserves the chance to feel confident and competent in the water.

Our programs aim to stimulate the central nervous system, engage the vagus nerve, and support the development of muscle memory. By doing so, we help swimmers build the brain-body connection necessary for skill acquisition and long-term learning success.
We warmly welcome all families to become part of our swim community, embrace our culture, and discover the life-changing effects of water.
