I am Vicky Reade a swimming teacher from Swindon , Wiltshire, UK. I am founder of Inclusive Swim with Vicky. I am starting up swimming lessons to support the SEN and the disabled community around my local area. Talking to SEN, Disability services and parents within Swindon and surrounding areas there are very limited Swimming lessons which specialise in Disability and children with additional needs. I want to change this for these children that can’t be involved or have been rejected by mainstream swimming lessons due to them not being able to meet their criteria or they can’t support their needs. I want everyone to have the opportunity to understand the safety around an aquatic environment as well as learning life saving skills and have the opportunity to gain therapy input from the water a disability should never be a barrier.
A little about me:
I have been a swimming teacher for 3 years teaching Baby and preschool and now branched out to complete my STA Swimming teaching course, STA Disability swimming course and now my Autism Swim course as this is a passion of mine. I am a mother to a little boy who has several health conditions and has been diagnosed with Genetic Epilepsy syndrome which courses Neurodiversity, behavioural problems, ADHD, Autism and seizures. Experiencing this first hand as a mother of a child with additional needs I can agree with the lack of swimming classes suitable for his needs and sensory input. He struggles to regulate himself, consecrate and understand boundaries/rules. I have managed to put some strategies in place to support this and now his behaviour with class is much calmer and able to join in mainstream classes again.
I would love to support other children in this way and also to make families feel more comfortable and confident about their children being around an aquatic environment if its going to a local pool as a family, walking along a river/ lake side or going on holiday.
