Brith – Can Do Aquatics

Empathetic, Experienced, and Adaptive Specialized Instruction

Hi, I’m Brith. My journey into the water began with a long-standing passion for supporting children with unique needs. With a career in childcare dating back to 1999, I often served as a lead support worker, where I fell in love with the unique ways children with additional needs think and interact. In 2009, I added swim instruction to my toolkit, and by 2015, I moved into the aquatic space full-time.

My commitment to this community isn’t just a job; it’s a calling. I have spent my winters volunteering at Southport Special School in their hydro pool, and the moment the opportunity to become an Autism Swim Approved instructor arrived, I jumped at it. I believe every child deserves to be safe, confident, and happy in the water.

Why I’m Different

I understand that a “one size fits all” approach doesn’t work. I pride myself on being patient, compassionate, and highly adaptable. At Can Do Aquatics, I focus on the whole child, not just the stroke.

  • The Environment: I teach in a comfortable, indoor heated ozone pool. To keep sensory input manageable, I ensure a quiet atmosphere—there are never more than three teachers in the water at once, and often, it’s just me.
  • Holistic Learning: My lessons go beyond drowning prevention. Using visuals, specialized toys, and engaging equipment, I integrate:
    • Water safety and learn-to-swim techniques.
    • Conversation and social skills.
    • Fine and gross motor skill development.
  • Celebrating Progress: I believe that in the water, every “little” step is actually a massive milestone. I am there to celebrate every bit of progress toward becoming a confident swimmer.

I look forward to meeting your child and discovering the unique way they learn!

Testimonials

“Brith is incredibly patient and nurturing for young children, particularly if they are not a fan of conforming to ‘standard’ swimming lessons! She has worked tirelessly with my Son and for 3 years with my daughter and we are still with her! She has lots of tricks up her sleeves for the challenging kids like mine

😍
Highly recommend!”

“Where to start! Brith is amazing! My 6 1/2 month old son has done only 4 swimming lessons with Brith, and he amazes me at the things that he is learning to do sooooo fast! I have had countless proud mamma moments, he LOVES being dunked and glided underwater, on his 3rd lesson he was pursing his lips before going under the water (he’s learnt to close his mouth so as not to take in the water), on his 4th lesson he’s closing his eyes before going under, but most importantly he’s having a great time- smiling from start to end and I attribute that to Briths teaching. Furthermore, I think that his comfort in the water, his eagerness to learn, and the fast pace at which he is thriving is definitely a testament to Briths teaching style and way she is with the lil ones. We started our first aqua playgroup lesson today and I couldn’t help but feel so proud of my lil guy as other mums were commenting how great he is in the water! Thanks Brith for not only teaching Ryder an incredibly invaluable life skill, but for giving us a new platform for special bonding. I love the way that Ryder responds to you and holds his hands out to you with eagerness for you to take him and teach him new skills. It’s such great fun!”

“Brith has been amazing for our 5 year old son with autism. We tried numerous different swim schools and this is the first time we’ve made progress. She’s very patient with him and understands his needs.
